Removing a stuck-on ring
August 31, 2007

It is one of those not-so-fun side effects of pregnancy: You wake up to find your fingers now resemble stuffed sausages and your rings are stuck on your fingers. Blame all the extra blood volume circulating through your pregnant body, the heat/humidity and that late-night plate of salty french fries, but your rings are not coming off. What do you do?
Try these tips for removing a ring:
1. Prop your hand up over your head (or above your heart) to decrease the swelling.
2. Dip your hand into ice water for a couple of minutes to quickly de-puff your fingers.
3. Twist your ring off, instead of pulling straight off.
4. Use petroleum jelly or soap and water to help your ring slide off.
5. Use Windex: I know it sounds crazy, but for some reason it works great.
If none of these tips are working and your finger is changing color, call your doctor. You may need to get your ring cut off. You can often get your ring repaired, but you can’t replace a finger!
