Finding maternity jeans that fit

December 26, 2008

You knew what to look for in jeans pre-pregnancy, but how can you ensure you find the right fit now that you are pregnant?

Like your pre-pregnancy jeans, the best way to ensure a proper fit is to try on the jeans. Generally speaking, a boot cut jean with a darker wash will be more slimming that a fitted ankle jean with a light wash.

You also have a choice when it comes to belly panels. You have a full panel (covers entire belly), a mid-panel(can be folded down or pulled up) and a no-panel or under-the-belly fit.

What about sizing? Should you buy the same size as your pre-pregnancy size or do you need to go up? Find out by reading, Finding your maternity fashion fit.

Steal her style: Holly Palmer at Valkyrie premiere

December 21, 2008

Pregnant singer/actress Holly Palmer was simply glowing in a colorful dress at the Valkyrie premiere last week.

Palmer, who is expecting her first child (a boy!) in March, walked the red carpet in the Isabella Oliver Drop Waist Dress in cranberry. She wears this silk jersey dress off both shoulders, and finishes off her look with tan heels.

Pregnancy Fashion tip: Tan heels gives the illusion of longer and leaner legs. Let’s face it, what pregnant woman doesn’t want longer and leaner legs?

A drop waist dress is flattering to a pregnant woman’s figure because it gives your body form, revealing your pregnancy bump. Dresses that are cut to be A-line or without ties or a belt can give you the dreaded “tent” look.

Dave Grohl and pregnant Jordyn Grohl rock the red carpet

December 21, 2008

Foo Fighter Dave Grohl and his pregnant wife, Jordyn, were recently seen at the 31st Annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington D.C. Find out all the details of her red carpet style and how you can steal her look.

Jordyn, who is expecting her second child early next year, wore a black lace dress, strappy black shoes and red lipstick, accenting Dave’s black attire well.

This dress actually did not photograph well from the front. I saw a side shot in which you can better see the details of the dress and, contrary to how this particular photo looks, this dress actually flattered her quite well.

If you are looking for a black lace maternity dress like Jordyn’s, check out the Formal Maternity Lace Ensemble from NicoleMaternityWholesale.com. This 2-piece dress features an off-the-shoulder stretch lace top with bell sleeves.

Must-have maternity top: Scunchbump

December 18, 2008

Are you at that stage of pregnancy where your pre-pregnant clothes are too tight or short and maternity clothes are too big? Before you resolve yourself to too-big clothes that only make you look big — not pregnant– check out Scrunchbump.

Developed out of necessity, Scrunchbump is the design of mom Priscilla Hubbard who discovered that she needed something to help transition her between pre-pregnancy clothes and maternity clothes. “I sewed a shirt tight enough that it gave me support around my quickly expanding belly,” she reveals. “Then I discovered that I could wear this shirt with my favorite non-maternity jeans while disguising the fact that they were unzipped! I loved the shirt so much, I had to share it with the world.”

What she developed is a line of tops that are designed to “scrunch” around your growing belly, giving you length when you need it and scrunching back up when you don’t need as much length– like post-baby. You have three looks to choose from — the signature capped sleeve (pictured), the signature cami and the signature tank — that can be worn on their own or layered.

Scrunchbump tops (prices starting at $25.99) are available in a variety of colors and can be purchased at www.Scrunchbump.com.
