Pregnancy present: Maternity necklace

August 25, 2008

We all know about push presents, but don’t you also deserve a pregnancy present? In case you don’t know, a push present is a gift that your husband will give you after you give birth to your child. That’s right, tell your hubby to start saving his pennies now.

The Maternity Necklace from Spunky Sprout would make the perfect pregnancy present. It is a sterling silver fine ball chain with a disc that spells out the month you are due. It also includes a crystal dangle that will correspond to the birthstone of the month you are due.

Of course, your little one may decide to come early or late, but this would still make a great memento to have and wear during your pregnancy.

Pick up the Maternity Necklace for $78 at SpunkySprout.com.

Workout wear: Splurge vs. save

August 25, 2008

Forget throwing on baggy sweatpants and a worn out tank top — get motivated to get your bump moving in hip workout attire! Here are two options, depending on if you are splurging or saving.

For a splurge that is sure to get you to the gym, check out the Olian 2-Piece Workout Set ($88, pictured) from Due Maternity. The coordinating set features a grey and black tank top with slimming black stripes on the side and stretchy pants with an underbelly fit. My only question? Why can’t all of my clothes have slimming black stripes down the side?

If the cost of gas has been eating up your fashion fund, you will look just as hip in the Maternity French Terry Pants ($22.50) from Old Navy. Pair these soft French terry pants with a long layering Cami ($4.99-$8.50) and you are ready for your workout.

Hands off my bump tees

August 23, 2008

Having strangers come up and rub your belly is one of the expected side effects of pregnancy, along with heartburn and gas. Or does it have to be?

PreggoPrincess.com does the talking for you with their line of “Hands Off My Belly” tees. Pictured is the more tame, Do Not Touch My Baby Bump. Thank You,” but they also feature a Halloween skull with the words, “Hands off the Bump!”

I, personally, did not get that offended when people touched my pregnant belly. In fact, I hate to admit it, but I find myself doing it to some of my pregnant friends!

What do you think? Would you wear a shirt telling people to keep their hands off of your bump?

Copy her look: Ashlee Simpson

August 23, 2008

Pregnant popstar Ashlee Simpson shows off her growing bump at the Zellers store at the relaunch of the Request clothing line.

Simpson and her husband, Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz, are expecting their first child this winter.

Check out Ashlee’s side-knot below her belly. This is a great trick for those pregnant mamas who feel like their tunic top is too bulky. How do you do it? Simply take the excess material and tie it in a knot below your bump. Wrap a black hair tie around the know to further secure it.

I also like the fact that she adds a pop of color to her all-black look with a red scarf. How very Jessica Alba of her!

August 22, 2008

Actress Nicole Kidman was spotted at the Beverly Hills baby boutique stocking up on baby essentials, including a new mama must-have, the diaper bag. Kidman and her hubby, country singer Keith Urban, welcomed daughter Sunday Rose Kidman Urban on July 7th.

Kidman picked up the Reese in Sahara diaper bag ($450) to carry little Sunday’s things in style. This messenger bag is made of Italian Ruat leather with polished hardware.

It includes lush features like a washable changing pad, zip-in and zip-out lining and multiple pockets to keep all of your baby gear organized.

How much do you plan on spending on a diaper bag?

Jennifer Garner cool weather style

August 22, 2008

Actress Jennifer Garner keeps her bump under wrap as she goes for a doctor’s appointment at Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.

The former Alias star and her hubby, actor Ben Affleck, are expecting their second child this winter.

This lightweight jacket is the perfect way to transition from warm weather to cold weather. The tie can be worn above or under your bump to give your body some form and to avoid looking like you are wearing a tent.

I wish I looked as good as Jennifer with little or no makeup! Maybe it is the pregnancy hormones, but she has that glow!

Need some convincing? Here are two options for maternity underwear, depending on if you are splurging or saving.

For a splurge, you will love the sexy lace trim of the Hanky Panky Bikini underwear ($28, A Pea in the Pod). With the under-the-belly cut, these are designed to perfectly fit your new curves.

Laila Ali on Pregnancy magazine

August 21, 2008

American Gladiator host Laila Ali is Pregnancy magazine’s covergirl for the month of September. Ali and her husband are expecting their first child, a boy named Curtis Muhammad, in early September.

Although she won’t reveal a specific due date, saying only, “I don’t put a due date on the baby, whenever he’s ready to come out,” she is specific about one thing: having a home birth.

“I saw Ricki Lake’s documentary, The Business of Being Born. I think all women kind of like to be in control, but I want to really experience the birth. Society tells you , “You get pregnant, you go to the hospital”, and that was just naturally what I was going to do, but once I saw that there was another option, it just fit me. I want to be fully present - I don’t want any medications. I just want to be in control of the situation - as much as I can be anyways.”

She goes on to say that she would like to have a water birth. “I’m going to have water there, but I know that I might not end up giving birth in the water. Or, I might just use my own tub.”

She does plan on breastfeeding, calling it a gift from God. “Our bodies are made a certain way to nuture our children. To certain point, anyway. I’m not going to be one of those mothers breastfeeding my 3 year old.”

Ali is wearing the Isabella Oliver Scoop Top ($75) in Cobalt Blue.

Celebrity baby nursery: Diane Farr

August 20, 2008

Numb3rs actress Diane Farr opened up the doors of her baby nursery to the pages of Life and Style magazine. Farr, 38, is expecting twin girls this month with her husband Seung Chung. The couple has one son, 17-month-old Beckett Mancuso.

What did the actress do when she found out she was having twins? “I said a lot of expletives. Then I realized it was all about organization. Now I’m pretty much prepared. If you open up any drawer in the room, they’re filled for until the girls are 2!”

Farr had a specific system for decorating the ballerina-themed nursery. “You should splurge on a really high-end piece, then one medium piece, and a bunch of thing to fill in.”

She revealed she chose the Posh Tots chandelier and lamps for her splurge, and went with the Serena and Lily sheets for her medium-price pieces.

Copy her look: Ashlee Simpson

August 20, 2008

Singer Ashlee Simpson dines with friends at the paparazzi hot spot Ivy Restaurant in Beverly Hills, CA. Simpson is expecting her first child this winter with her husband, Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz.

Simpson is wearing the charcoal version of the exact same dress that Christina Aguilera wore in plum when she was pregnant. The dress is the Gypsy 05 Organic Long Dress ($100) from gypsy05.com.

Keeping with the maxi dress trend, this dress it made out of super-soft jersey organic maternial and features a sexy deep v-neckline and an elastic band around the waist. This dress is not labeled “maternity,” but the style makes it perfect for stylish moms-to-be.

I love the dress, but am trying to decide about the hat. What do you think?
