May 27, 2008

Do you think you have to pack away your lingerie until your baby is born? Think again. Today’s pregnant mamas can look hotter than ever in sexy pieces that can reveal as little (or as much!) as you want.

Flaunt your new curves by picking pieces that highlight your favorite pregnancy “symptom”: a bigger bustline!

Not sure where to start? I love the sexy details in the Belabumbum Organic Bamboo Chemise (pictured, $78) from BabyStyle. Loved by celebs such as Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner, this flirty chemise features a sexy v-neckline and lettuce edging.

I also like the feminine print on the Flower Child Nursing Chemise ($90) from BabyStyle. This chemise can be worn throughout pregnancy and can be worn post-baby for those late-night nursing sessions. The nursing cups snap down to provide easy access for breastfeeding.

Tori Spelling talks nursery decor and more

May 26, 2008

Pregnant actress Tori Spelling recently spoke with Modern Mom about her pregnancy and gives the inside scoop on how she is decorating the nursery. Spelling and her husband, Dean McDermott, are expecting their second child, a girl, in July. They are already parents to 1 1/2 year old Liam.

On her pregnancy:
“The second time being pregnant, I appreciate it more. The first time I was always thinking, “I don’t feel good,” or, “Oh, I’m getting so big.” You focus on what’s happening to you. But when I had Liam, I felt a loss – he wasn’t inside me anymore. This time I appreciate every little kick, every little moment. I talk to her. The best part of being pregnant is I never feel alone. ”

On her nursery:
“I’m doing the nursery myself. I’m obsessed with doing it in pink. Every girl wants to think pink. I have the book, Serena & Lily: Nursery Style, which I love, and it’s giving me inspiration. And I’m looking at Serena & Lily bedding now for the crib. Dean really wanted a princess nursery, and I’m into modern. So we’re trying to mesh the two into a chic, modern, princess, girly-girl nursery. It’s not done yet – stay tuned!”

On her maternity style (Spelling was wearing a Diane von Furstenburg dress during the interview):
“It’s not maternity. I just bought one size bigger than normal and had the dress altered a little.”

Summer essentials for pregnant mamas

May 25, 2008

Are you planning on spending the holiday weekend poolside enjoying the warm weather? Here is a cheat sheet on everything you need to keep you looking and feeling great with a bun in the oven.

Buying a maternity swimsuit is easier than ever now that designers have realized pregnant women want a suit that flatters, not disguises their bump. Your options include a full piece, bikini or tankini. Pictured is the Printed Tankini swim suit from Gap.com.

A cover-up can mean anything from a terry strapless dress to a long tunic top. Look for a cover-up that coordinates with you suit and is easy to put on.

Pregnant or not, sun protection is a must. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and slather on the sunblock to keep you protected. Flip-flops and a juicy novel are also two must-haves for lounging by the pool.

Hip baby bedding

May 25, 2008

Shopping for crib bedding for boys used to mean you were stuck with either sheets plastered with trains and airplanes or plaid. Today’s hip baby boys have many more options that include modern prints and cool colors. One such bedding is the crib bedding from JJ Cole which is available at BabyStyle. I love the hip designs as much as the reasonable prices!

The Blue Mod Crib Set ($200) features contemporary prints in a hip combination of colors - mocha, blue and cream. The comforter is reversible, as is the bumper, with blue mod print on one side and a quilted pattern on the other.

The 4-piece set includes the pleated crib skirt, the 100% cotton fitted sheet, reversible bumper and reversible comforter. Pick up the Blue Mod Crib Set at BabyStyle.com.

Belt your bump like Camila Alves

May 25, 2008

camila-alves-md.jpg
Model Camila Alves keeps her maternity style summer-ready in this white belted dress paired with Grecian sandals. Alves, 26, and her boyfriend Matthew McConaughey are expecting their first child in late June.

Copy her look by wearing a short white dress, such as the Eyelet Apron Dress from Gap, and belting it under your belly with a cool braided belt. Throw on a pair of Grecian sandals and you have a sexy summer maternity look.

Do you like the look, but don’t feel comfortable in short dress? This look would look just as hip pairing an under-the-belly belt with a longer dress or a tunic top and leggings.

Liv Tyler on pregnancy and being a working mom

May 24, 2008

liv-tyler.JPG
Actress Liv Tyler recently opened up to Self magazine on everything from her pregnancy (son Milo is 3) to balancing work and family and interesting advice from her dad, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

On being pregnant:
“I loved being pregnant so much, and experiencing a child growing in your body just gives you such a newfound respect for the human body. It’s just fascinating. It gives you this sense and this feeling of timelessness, this sort of evolution of man and what a miracle it is that you get pregnant at all. It’s not like you take a special pill and this pill makes the baby grow. The baby just grows, without your even doing anything but breathing and sleeping and eating. That is an amazing feeling. You feel so proud of your body. We didn’t find out if Milo was a girl or a boy. At first I think I wanted to find out but Roy didn’t want to and I’m really grateful that we didn’t, because there’s such a beauty in the mystery, in the awe of not knowing. It’s the greatest surprise ever.”

On being a working mom:
“It’s hard as a woman to be working so much all the time and out in the world and then also really wanting to be a mother and wanting to do all those things around the house for your child. It’s really overwhelming, especially when your child is young. My dream my whole life was to be a mother, not to have a career or be famous. I love my job and care a lot about what I do and I get a lot of pleasure from acting, but I want to be able to be home and be [Milo's] mother. I don’t want somebody else raising him.”

Sound advice from her dad:
“I floss every day. My dad taught me to floss when I was really young. He was like, “Smell the floss” after I flossed. Ugh, it was the most disgusting thing! Seriously, if you try it, you’ll never not floss again!”
