Samantha Harris shows off baby nursery

October 31, 2007

cbcandystripepinkbasket.jpg
Dancing with the Stars co-host Samantha Harris recently opened up her pink and chocolate nursery to Life and Style magazine. “I think it’s modern with a vintage edge and I couldn’t be happier with it,” she says. Harris welcomed her first child, daughter Josselyn Sydney, last month.

Harris chose the Chelsea sleigh crib in buttermilk by Bratt Decor for $1320. The Caden Lane Taylor collection ($450) bedding coordinated nicely with the custom-painted pink walls.

The girly nursery had accents of pink and chocolate heart frames. Pictured is the pink candy stripes Moses basket by Clairebella for $200.

Check out the pictures of little Josselyn’s nursery in the current issue of Life and Style Weekly.

Clothes that minimize a large chest

October 30, 2007

Your body goes through many changes when you are pregnant. One change many women notice is an increase in their bust size. Some women (myself included!) welcome that change, whereas other women feel like they had enough to start with and do not like their fuller breasts.

Here are some tips on what to wear and what not to wear to disguise large breasts:

1. One great option is to pair a flattering V-neckline with a layering cami underneath to give you more coverage. Pictured is the V-neck Charcoal Tunic from Babystyle.
2. A shirt with a criss-cross design can also be flattering to women with larger breasts, as long as you ensure the shirt has enough adequate coverage.
3. Get fitted for a bra that will give you the proper support and coverage. Your clothes will fit better and you will feel better.
4. Avoid turtle neck or polo tops because they will enhance, rather than disguise, your breasts. Look for tops that show some skin around your neck, such as a V-neck or scoop neck and use a layering cami (see tip #1) as needed.

Since we are on the subject of breasts, have you thought about breastfeeding? If you do plan on breastfeeding your baby, you may be wondering if breast pumps are necessary. Click here to read what real moms have to say on the subject.

Roberto Cavalli confirms JLo pregnancy

October 30, 2007

Designer Roberto Cavalli has confirmed that Jennifer Lopez is indeed pregnant. When asked who he is designing for, he responded: “Well Jennifer Lopez, as this moment, she requests something very special because she is waiting for the baby.”

Cavalli is the man responsible for all of JLo’s outfits for her current tour with her husband Marc Anthony. He talked to People about the challenges of designing clothes to accommodate for her changing body.

“It is so complicated because every week she is getting bigger. The thing about Jennifer Lopez, she is a singer, she is a dancer,” Cavalli says. “Most of the time when I prepare something for the tour, the performer, they want something very soft so they can dance and so they can move free.”

Last minute Halloween costumes

October 29, 2007

pumpkin_in_patch.jpg
Halloween is just around the corner so I have some perfect last minute maternity costumes for all those busy moms-to-be.

Painting your belly with non-toxic paint is always a (relatively) easy and inexpensive costume. Here are a couple of ideas:

1. Fruit: paint your belly like a red apple or a green watermelon.
2. Have your other children put handprints on your belly.
3. Paint your belly like a pea pod to symbolize your little pea in your pod.

Are you not feeling brave enough to bare your belly? Why not buy an orange shirt and paint a black face over your belly and go as a Jack-o-Lantern!

How to count kicks: Kick Trak Counter

October 29, 2007

kick-track.jpg
The March of Dimes has reported that over 500,000 American women give birth prematurely which is why they have designated November as Prematurity Awareness Month. They hope to introduce new technologies that will decrease the rate of premature birth thus increasing the chances of a healthy baby.

One such device is the Kick Trak Counter. This device, developed by an obstetrician, helps pregnant women keep track of how many kicks they feel. Pregnant women are advised to start counting their kicks beginning at 24 weeks. This digital device records how long it takes your baby to make 10 movements. It can also be used to time your contractions once labor begins.

Pick up the Kick Track Counter for $49.95 at babykick.com.

Gretchen Mol reveals post-baby slimming secret

October 29, 2007

gretchen_mol.jpg
Actress Gretchen Mol, mom to one-month-old son Ptolemy John Williams, recently revealed her post-baby slimming secret: Spanx shapewear.

These “modern girdles” look more like hose and are designed to comfortably smooth and flatten your post-baby body. I know of many moms who swear that Spanx helps their tummy go back to its pre-pregnant shape. Gwyneth Paltrow had said she wore Spanx after her daughter Apple was born.

Of course, Spanx alone won’t get back your post-baby body. “I’ve been trying to go to yoga, but I didn’t gain tons of weight to begin with, so it made it a little bit easier,” Gretchen tells OK! magazine. “You forget to eat because you’re so busy feeding your little creature.”

You can find Spanx shapewear at department stores and online for around $34.

Date night dress

maternity-date-night-dress.jpg
Whether it is for date night or your baby shower, chances are you are going to need at least one fabulous maternity dress.

Wrap dresses are nice because they highlight your curves and are versatile enough to be worn from the first trimester into your third trimester. Look for dresses with a flattering v-neck cut to perfectly frame your face and chest.
