Knocked Up movie: Get the look

September 27, 2007

They say laughter is good for you and for the baby, so you should make a point of seeing the movie Knocked Up (currently out on DVD). Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl plays the pregnant “Alison,” on the movie, and Star Style shows how you can copy her feminine maternity look.

This Alfani Belted Peasant Blouse ($29.50 at Macy’s) is a perfect way to show off your blooming bump. Tie the belt above your bump for a flirty look. This shirt is not maternity, but it is tunic length so it will be long enough to cover your belly. Pair this look with some jeans and sexy sandals for the perfect “Knocked Up” look.

Splurge vs. Steal: Wrap Dress

September 27, 2007

If you are looking for a dress with a little sex appeal, then a wrap dress should be at the top of your list. The neckline shows off your cleavage, while the sexy wrap flaunts your new curves. You don’t have to spend a lot of money for a great dress….unless you want to! Here are two wrap dress options depending on if you want to splurge a little or save.

No one does the perfect wrap dress quite like Isabella Oliver. The sexy v-neckline and figure-hugging bodice with the playful side tie will have you looking like a yummy mummy. At $155, the Isabella Oliver wrap dress (pictured)is a perfect splurge.

If you want to scrimp on money, but not on style, then the Liz Lange 3/4 sleeve Wrap Dress from Target could be just what you are looking for. This dress has the same flirty neckline and basic design at a fraction of the price. At $27.99, the Liz Lange Wrap Dress is quite the steal.

Maternity jacket options

September 27, 2007

Versatility is the key phrase when shopping for a jacket to fit your pregnant body. You want a jacket that will grow with you throughout your pregnancy, and can be part of your non-maternity wardrobe.

Here are some maternity jacket options to keep in mind:

A buttoned front coat made from stretchy material (such as a sweater coat) will confirm to your growing bump and can be worn post-pregnancy.

A trench coat is a stylish and versatile option to keep you warm. You can tie your coat above your bump while pregnant and around your waist once baby is born.

A swing or cropped jacket is a hip look that is hot with both the pregnant and non-pregnant crowd. You can find jackets that have buttons or that tie in the front—you decide what works best for you. This jacket can be easily transitioned into your non-maternity clothes. Pictured is the Elizabeth Jacket from Liz Lange.

Do you need a maternity bra?

September 26, 2007

There are some maternity items that are luxuries during pregnancy (that expensive pair of designer denim), and other items, such as a well-fitting bra, are necessities. It is inevitable that your breasts will get larger during pregnancy and will stay that way until after baby is born. Many women notice breast tenderness and an increase in size by the time they are 8 weeks pregnant.

You can continue wearing your pre-pregnancy bra until it starts to leave marks on your skin or until your cup runneth over. At that point, it is a good idea to invest in a new bra.

When should you buy a bra? Every woman is different, but most will find their breast size stabilizing by the time they reach 6 or 7 months. After baby is born and your milk comes in you may find your breast size increasing another cup size, however it will go down as your milk supply stabilizes.

If you plan on breastfeeding, it is a good idea to go ahead and buy a nursing bra. It will provide the support your fuller breasts need and will be used once you start breastfeeding baby. If you do not plan on breastfeeding, you will need a comfortable and supportive maternity bra.

It is always a good idea to buy 2-3 bras so you always have a clean one ready to be worn. Buy a beige, white and black bra so you have an undergarment that will blend in underneath your tops.

It is made of Italian Hermes lamb leather with chrome finish hardware and snake skin accents. It includes an animal print changing pad and removable inside lining for easy clean-up.

How Halle Berry gets pampered

September 25, 2007

We all deserve a little pampering while we are pregnant. Whether it is eating a certain comfort food or a day at the spa, you need to do whatever makes you feel calm and rested.

Actress Halle Berry is expecting her first child in the spring with her boyfriend, model/restaurant owner Gabriel Aubry. He recently told People what Berry likes to keep her feeling pampered. “She loves foot massages…I do all of that stuff,” he says.

What foods does Berry crave? “She does crave pickles. Any bread. Doesn’t matter, as long as it’s salt and pickles.”

Do the salty food cravings mean Berry is having a boy? “I don’t know, and we’re not going to find out,” Aubry says.

What does your man do to make you feel pampered? For me, it meant helping me out when I could no longer bend over! I remember my husband took over giving my toddler his nighttime baths when I was pregnant (a ritual he still continues).

Halloween fun with your bump

Halloween is just around the corner and I have some great ideas for dressing up and having fun with your baby bump.

For all those sporty moms, check out the pregnant soccer mom costume ($39.99) at Brandsonsale.com.

You will be the talk of the party in this printed soccer dress, red visor and whistle. It even comes with an extra belly pad in case your bump is not big enough to pull off the look you want. Throw on some tall socks and your tennis shoes and you are ready to go! If the dress feels a little too short for you, wear some black leggings for an equally fun look.
