Halloween belly painting ideas

September 30, 2007

bellyart.jpg
Have fun with your growing belly during the month of October by turning your bump into a Halloween costume. If you have an artistic side (or know someone who does) and are not shy about showing off your belly, then this is the perfect costume for you. All you need is a pregnancy-safe painting kit, such as the Pregnancy Belly Painting Kit, and your imagination and you are ready to go!

Here are some fun ideas to get you started:

1. Paint your belly like a silly or scary jack-o-lantern. Paint your belly orange with black eyes, nose and mouth.
2. Paint a picture of your baby smiling, waving or sucking his thumb.
3. Paint your belly like a ball, for example a basketball, soccer ball or baseball.
4. What about your favorite animal? Draw a cat, dog or pig and wear a coordinating mask or ears on your head.
5. Turn your belly into a fishbowl! Paint colorful fish swimming on your tummy.
6. Pay homage to Mother Earth by turning your belly into a globe of the earth.

Celeb-favorite maternity jeans

September 30, 2007

tamia-hill-maternity-jeans.jpg
Orlando Magic hoops star Grant Hill and his wife Tamia Hill are parents to 2-month-old Lael and 5-year-old Grace. Tamia knows a thing or two about maternity fashion, and that includes choosing a fashionable pair of maternity denim.

Tamia chose Habitual Dark Wash Jeans ($186) and Paige Premium Denim Melrose Straight Leg Jeans (pictured, $179), both from Due Maternity.

Habitual, also a favorite of Angelina Jolie and Katie Holmes, has a stylish underbelly fit and button-out waistband. These jeans can be worn throughout your pregnancy and will be great after baby as well.

Paige Premium jeans will give you that very-hip straight legged look. This pair of denim will look great paired with your ballerina flats. Paige jeans have a belly panel that can be folded down or pulled up for more support–how versatile is that?

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon twin style

September 29, 2007

Actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon makes carrying twins look easy in this Jenni Kayne top and Cadeau maternity pants. Garcelle, 40, is expecting twin boys in November.

Beauvais-Nilon is seen here with actress Kelly Carlson at the opening of a Hollywood vintage boutique, Decades Two. “I just love what they do,” Beauvais tells Instyle magazine. “What is really unique about this store is that you can find things that are one of a kind and very old Hollywood.”

Jenni Kayne does not design “maternity” clothes (Garcelle says she doesn’t buy many maternity clothes), but many of her hip designs will work with a pregnant belly. Check out her tunic tops and mini dresses at Shopbop. Warning–they are pricey ($595.00 for the print Grecian Mini Dress)—but it is always fun to look!

Joely Fisher on pregnancy fashion

September 29, 2007

There is no way to compare the magnitude, the wonder, the amazement, and humility of being with child, knocked up, having a bun in the oven. It is difficult to describe the unparalleled power in housing another’s soul. It’s also a bitch to find something to wear. In my chosen profession, I have found that I have had the unfortunate reality of my pregnancies not only having three trimesters, but second halves. The first four or five months is about hiding or masking the ‘bump’ from the immediate world;
therefore, finding a look that is hot and being Houdini (although I hear straightjackets are making a comeback!). It’s not that I have found myself unhappy with the bulging belly, just working a little harder at having that sex goddess look I’ve tried desperately to achieve! Second, only because it works that way — the great reveal, the announcement of the impending
addition to our planet. It is at this time that you want to do a naked photo shoot, you are constantly massaging the lump, and you can really belly dance.”

– Actress Joely Fisher, mom of two, as told in the book Rock Star Momma: The Hip Guide to Looking Gorgeous Through All Nine Months and Beyond by Skye Hoppus, Mandi Norwood and Amy Denoon

Would you wear 6-inch heels?

September 29, 2007

richie.jpg
Nicole Richie, 6 months pregnant with her first child, was recently seen teetering around in 6 inch heels. You should be required to wear a helmet and elbow pads with these shoes!

Because your center of balance is off when you are pregnant, I would not advise 6-inch heels. If you like a little height, wear a wedge or kitten heel.

What do you think of Richie’s sky-high maternity look?

Bun in the oven costume

September 29, 2007

This Bun in the Oven costume will leave little doubt of your expecting status! What a fun costume—you will certainly be the talk of the Halloween soiree.

The Bun in the Oven Costume ($52.95) includes the laminated foam tunic and removable fake bun. The black leggings and black long sleeve shirt are not included. The tunic is available in one size; however the box design leaves plenty of room for your belly.

The Bun Maker Costume ($27.95) includes a white apron with “Bun Maker” written on it and an over sized chef hat. You could also make your own apron and save a few bucks!

Clothes that energize

September 28, 2007

redshirt.jpg
Feeling tired and fatigued is one of the most common complaints of pregnant women. When a nap is out of the question, give yourself an extra boost with these energizing fashion tips:

1. Use colors to your advantage: Dress in stimulating red or energizing orange.
2. Dress in layers: Nothing zaps your energy faster than feeling too hot or too cold. Wear clothes that will adjust to your varying temperature needs, such as a short sleeve shirt with a jacket or button-front long sleeve shirt.
3. It is hard to feel energized when you are battling morning sickness. Wear a seasickness wrist band which uses acupressure to relieve the nausea.
4. Use a body wash or (depending on your scent sensitivity) with the scent of energy-inducing lemon or orange.
5.
Wear shoes that have a shock-absorbing sole or slip in an extra padded insert. Skip the heels and stick with stylish flats.

Expecting bride Tameka Foster in Vera Wang

September 28, 2007

usher5.jpg
Pop star Usher and his wife, Tameka Foster, shared photos of their lavish wedding reception at the Chateau Elan Winery and Resort outside of Atlanta. The couple is expecting their first child, a boy, this fall.

The pregnant bride wore a strapless, figure-hugging Vera Wang dress accented with a beautiful diamond necklace, while Usher wore an Armani tuxedo. “Every detail was exactly as we wanted it to be,” Foster says.

Pregnant brides have many options when buying a wedding dress. You can show off your bump in a figure-hugging dress (be prepared for many fittings to adjust the dress to your growing bump) or an empire-waist dress. Don’t forget to splurge on a comfortable pair of shoes. After a full night of dancing, Foster was complaining, “Honey, my feet are hurting!”
