Who actually has the time to get 8 hours of sleep anymore? Between waking up to maneuver your belly under a pillow followed by the late-night newborn feedings your eyes are the first place to show the fatigue. Here is how to get a bright-eyed look, no concealer required.

Bright-Eye Massage:
Press at small, regular intervals from the inner corners of the eyes, beneath the eyes and out over the cheeks to the temples. Repeat twice, pressing lower and lower each time, until you press under the cheekbones for the final time.

Hip and sexy Christina Aguilera

August 28, 2007

christina_aguilera.jpg
Although songbird Christina Aguilera has not made an official “I’m pregnant” announcement, People magazine is reporting sources close to the star as saying she is expecting. Reportedly due in January, this will be the first baby for Aguilera and her husband Jordan Bratman.

Pregnant or not, you can incorporate Christina’s hip and sexy look into your maternity wardrobe. Pair a lacy sheer white v-neck top with a black undershirt (or bra, in Christina’s case). The black details of the top look great with black jeans or denim that has a dark wash. Accessorize with a white hat, dark sunglasses and a couple of charm necklaces for that superstar look. To maintain comfort and style, slip on a pair of black ballerina slippers for a finished look.

If you are not feeling brave enough to wear a black bra underneath a sheer top, but still want a similar look check out this silk cami with lace trim by Mimi Maternity.

Pregnancy hair help

August 27, 2007

Thanks to estrogen, one of the perks of pregnancy is thick and shiny hair. Many women notice their hair is less oily and has more volume. Unfortunately, many women notice after they give birth they start losing hair as it returns to its normal state.

Follow these 5 tips on managing your pregnant hair:

1. Be cautious when coloring your hair: hormones may make your hair take color more quickly thus resulting in a result different than what you want.
2. Because higher estrogen reduces the amount of oil in your scalp, wash your every other day instead of every day.
3. Play with pony tails and other easy hairstyles to keep you feeling cool and fresh.
4. Eat foods with B vitamins, zinc and iron to maintain healthy hair after you give birth.
5. You may notice your hair going through an awkward phase after you have given birth and your hair has shed its “pregnancy coat,” in which you have a bunch of short and unmanageable hairs. Experiment with using gels and/or headbands to conceal them until they grow out.

Model/actress Shanna Moakler reveals on her My Space page all of her favorite mommy gear. Moakler and her estranged husband, rocker Travis Barker, are parents to 20-month-old Alabama and 3-year-old Landon. The former Miss USA also has a child, 8-year-old Atiana, with boxer Oscar de la Hoya.

Here are some highlights:

As far as maternity clothes, Moakler names Gap, Babystyle and Childish as her top picks. Pictured is Moakler in a Childish Christine v-neck sequined tank.

Moakler recommends saving your money on baby clothes. “Don’t waste any money on baby clothes, if you have a shower..it doesn’t matter what you registered for…. your gonna get clothes!! People love to buy baby clothes! I love the Baby Gap! They truly have the best prices and really are cute!! Also CHILDISH makes super cool kids clothes! I love Pedi Ped shoes for my babies they are by far the BEST! and AT HOME pajamas are the best!”

Burp Cloths: “The best BURPY clothes I find is getting a large package of disposable cloth diapers without padding and use them, I used them for everything and the more you wash them the softer they become!”

Diaper Bag: “Diaper Dudes rock!”

Blankets: “I LOVE…LITTLE GIRAFFE blankets!”

what maternity/baby items could you have not lived without?

Loving your pregnant bod

“I’ve been on a diet my whole life.”
-Actress Liv Tyler, on how she spent years worrying about her weight until she became a mom two years ago, as told to Glamour

Even though most of us have to diet at one time or another (even Liv Tyler!), the 9 months that you are pregnant is not that time. Not to say that you should have a free-for-all cookie binge every night (although every now and then is perfectly acceptable!), but you should try to eat healthy and exercise in moderation.

Your body will change and it is supposed to change. Your breasts will get bigger, your hips will widen and (of course) your belly will grow. I loved how actress Mariska Hargitay said she loved her new curves and said she felt like a “goddess” while she was pregnant. It is so refreshing to admire and be in awe of your growing body instead of cursing it. In fact, being pregnant helped me to respect what my body could do instead of obsessing over every little spot of cellulite. My body has grown two beautiful and healthy boys and I think that is pretty cool.

How has being pregnant changed your body image?

Top 5 pregnancy fashion mistakes

August 26, 2007

You have just found out you are pregnant and can’t wait to get out and buy some maternity clothes. Before you shop till’ you drop, here are the 5 maternity fashion mistakes to avoid:

1. Buying clothes that are too big: Being pregnant no longer means you have to wear a muu-muu. Buy a couple of form fitting tanks, a figure-hugging wrap dress and a feminine empire-waist top to show off your new curves.
2. Buying all your maternity bras at once: Your breasts in your first trimester will not be the same breasts in your third trimester. Buy one bra around 8-12 weeks and another maternity/nursing bra late in your second trimester or early third trimester.
3. Waiting too long to buy maternity clothes: Buy clothes once your normal clothes start feeling tight. You will be more comfortable and get more wear out of your maternity clothes.
4. Not buying a fun graphic tee: When else can you get away with wearing a shirt that says, “No Drinking, No Smoking, No Sushi?”
5. Spending too much on maternity clothes: You can only wear maternity clothes for a short period of time. You will want to invest in a few good pieces (pants, jeans), but you can also find some great bargains by watching for sales, shopping online, going to consignment stores and/or borrowing maternity clothes from a friend. You can find some great pieces at budget prices by shopping Liz Lange’s line at Target stores.

Madonna and her fashionable family

“My daughter is going through a phase of wearing jeans that are so tight she can’t bend her knees in them. I have a go at her and say, ‘Can’t you wear something else? You have a closet full of clothes and you wear the same pants every day. And please wear a belt because I don’t want to see your butt crack when you bend over.’ My son never wants to take of his Gap army fatigue pants. They both wear the same thing over and over again.”

Madonna, on parenting 10-year-old daughter Lourdes and 5-year-old son Rocco, as told to Elle magazine

I guess we should enjoy the infant years when we can dress our little ones in whatever we want! I know my 3-year-old son loves his guitar t-shirt that he would wear every day if I let him. How are you planning on dressing your baby? Frou-frou or plain jane? Click here to read other mom’s thoughts on the topic.

Does your child have an article of clothing they want to wear over and over again?
