Delightful denim

June 30, 2007

Being pregnant no longer means having to wave adios to your designer jeans. In fact, today’s maternity denim is so comfortable it will quickly because one of your staple pieces.
habitual.jpg
Habitual maternity dark wash jean ($186) has a comfy underbelly fit and adjustable waistband that you button out as your belly grows. That’s right — these hip jeans, a favorite of Katie Holmes and Jenna Elfman, do not have the uncomfortable (and hot) front panel that always seems to slide down as your belly grows.

To help ease the sticker shock at the hefty price, know that the design allows your to wear these long after the baby is born without feeling like you are wearing maternity jeans.

Try pairing your Habitual dark wash jeans with the white Duet sleeveless pointelle maternity top ($45) and you have a hip, fresh summer look.

You can find Habitual maternity dark wash jeans and the Duet top at Belly Dance Maternity.

Wear your baby in style

June 29, 2007

One must-have accessory to add to your growing list of baby essentials is a stylish sling. Your baby will love being close to his favorite person (you!) and the swaying motion as you walk has a calming effect. You won’t find dancing bunnies or stiff fabric here–only sleek and modern fabrics that compliment your personal style.

Some of my favorites include the PSling New York Avant Wave. Check out actress Keri Russell as she carries her little bundle, 2-week-old River, in her blue P-Sling. Made from linen, this sling has a cool wave pattern that is created by the method of weaving the material. At $350, P-Sling does not want you to consider this simply a baby carrier, but “flexible clothing for wearing baby.” Pick up your P-sling by ordering from their online shop, or at the New York boutique.

If your tastes are a little more rock ‘n’ roll, you will love the Rockin’ Baby Ring Sling. These slings are made with funky fabrics that are perfect for the hip mama. Gwen Stefani loves to carry little Kingston in the Orange Zebra/Brown flowers sling ($97).

If you are looking for a sling that is a little more budget-friendly (but still sleek and stylish) check out the Hotslings ($44-$60). You don’t have to mess with rings or elaborate knots–just slip this over your head! As any sleep-deprived mom will tell you, this is a real plus! They come in many types of fabrics–from funky to simple. I have one for my baby and he loves it! Hotslings claim they can be used from newborns up to the toddler stage. You can find Hotslings online, or at select baby boutiques.

Swaddle like the stars

June 28, 2007

Gone are the days of swaddling your baby in a plain receiving blanket that falls apart with one swift kick of a chubby little leg. Swaddle Designs has created a stylish and super-soft swaddling blanket that will soothe your baby in an instant.

stack-of-mod-on-white.jpgThe Ultimate Receiving Blanket comes in an assortment of designs — Polka Dots, solid pastels, organics and (my favorite) Mod on White ($24). This product is also loved by celebrity moms — for example, Gwyneth Paltrow owns one of these ultra-cool blankets.

Swaddle Designs has also created a small security blanket, recommended for infants 6 months or older, called the Baby Lovie ($16). To help calm and soothe your baby, keep the blanket close to your skin to absorb your scent, then place near your baby. (Little Shiloh, daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, was recently photographed carrying her Baby Lovie.) These soft security blankets come in the same designs as the swaddling blanket, so you will match perfectly.

Pick up The Ultimate Receiving Blanket or Baby Lovie at Nordstrom and Babystyle.

Liz Lange, the designer who created the “new look” in maternity clothing — a look that is now the norm among pregnant celebrities — talks about the maternity style trends for expectant mothers.

She has two separate maternity fashion lines: her premium collection, which is available at select department stores, boutiques nationwide and online at LizLange.com, and the affordable Liz Lange for Target Maternity line.

The cute diaper bag with a cause

June 28, 2007

Celebrity parents like Patrick Dempsey and Marcia Cross have discovered a way to make their hectic lives with twins a little easier. BabyDish, the company responsible for babydish-jacob-bag.jpgBabyBeReady Diaper Bag Survival Kits (whose celeb following includes Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Garner and Gwyneth Paltrow), has created a new bag that is stocked with all the essentials you need to take your baby — or babies! — out for the day.

But besides looking stylish, the Jacob’s Cure Smiley Bag (shown here with its creators, Jordana Holovach, Jacobs Cure Founder & mom of Jacob, and Stacie Mindich-Jordan, president of BabyDish) is also practical. This happy bag contains a bottle, changing pad, burp cloth, pacifier & case, onesie, sun hat, diapers, a rattle, travel wipes and a bib. Having a bag fully-stocked definitely makes leaving the house a little less hectic!

You can also feel good in knowing that the 40% of the $50 price tag goes towards Jacob’s Cure, a charity responsible for finding a cure for a rare neurological disorder called Canavan disease. Read more

Perfectly pink purchases for Salma Hayek

June 27, 2007

salma hayekActress Salma Hayek left little doubt as to the sex of her baby as she and her mother shopped at the LA baby boutique, Bel Bambini.

Speaking in Spanish, Hayek and her mother shopped for about an hour picking up these purchases, according to People: Three solid pink sleepers ($35 each), a princess bedazzled pacifier ($63 — shown at right), Alvin & Sparky Little and Big Elephant set in pink and a Born Out of Necessity vintage pink/black cherry diaper bag ($299).

Hayek is expecting her first baby, apparently a girl, with fiancé Francois-Henri Pinault.

Ali Landry: Bohemian style star

June 27, 2007

alil.jpgModel/actress (and former Miss Louisiana USA), Ali Landry flaunted her bump in a colorful tunic dress at the National Latino Media Council event in California.

As published on CelebrityPregnancy.com, the 33-year-old Landry is expecting her first child in July with husband Alejandro Gomez Monteverde.

The mom-to-be does bohemian chic very well. You can copy her colorful look by dressing your burgeoning belly in a colorful dress, accessorizing with large gold earrings, chunky gold bracelets and then topping the look off with a leather clutch.

This kind of style doesn’t need a fussy updo — leave your hair free and wavy. Perfection!

Eco-friendly (yet stylish!) nursing wear

June 27, 2007

There is no doubt that it can be tough to enjoy nursing your baby (especially in public) when you have your shirt pulled up to your chin while managing a squirming baby.

Enter Jolie Maman Nursing Line, a totally organic line of clothes for nursing mothers. Don’t let the term “organic” turn you off — this new line is stylish, soft and colorful with designs that allow you to discreetly nurse your baby.

ella.jpgThe 100% Soy Ella Blousant Top ($66) has a modern style and criss-cross design that allows you to pull the fabric aside for nursing. Another plus is the forgiving cut for moms working on regaining their pre-pregnancy bodies.

It is hard to stay Zen when you are struggling to nurse your baby in a tight yoga tank. Joli Bebe has designed a yoga tank ($49.99) that is not only soft, but allows easy nursing with its criss-cross design.

Jolie Bebe Boutique also features adorable clothes for your baby that are earth-friendly, yet stylish.

You can find Joli Bebe products online or at select baby boutiques.

Dress up your bump

June 26, 2007

Pregnant actress/model Milla Jovovich looked stunning in her black Chanel cocktail dress at the Chanel Cruise Show last month. milla.jpgThis sleeveless dress with the v-neck cut and the embellishment above the belly is flattering from your first trimester on.

You can get the same look as Milla without breaking the bank on Chanel by wearing Belly Dance Maternity’s Juliet Dream Paris dress ($130).

This elegant dress has great details like the ruched material around the shoulders and the crocheted embellishment. The best part? It is machine washable, so there’s no need to schlep your pregnant self to the dry cleaners.

Are you loooking for a more casual version of the “little black dress?” Try Belly Dance’s bestselling dress — the Olian Sleeveless Twistfront Dress ($93).

Check out more dresses — casual or dressy — at Belly Dance.
